Did you realize that 1 billion people on Earth don’t have access to clean water? That’s 1 out of every 6 people on the face of the planet. Of these 1 billion people, about a third of them live in Africa. Many of these people have to walk 4-5 miles one way just to get water, but the water they’re getting is contaminated, making them sick and even killing them.

So, what can we do about it? We’re so glad you asked.

This year Walk for Water is partnered with Water2Thrive’s efforts in Robit, Ethiopia - home to over 11,000 people. Water2Thrive is currently working to install a deep bore-hole well and should be completed in June 2011. While they’re working we’re talking, bringing awareness to the need for clean water across the globe. Any contributions we receive will be sent directly to Water2Thrive so they can continue giving others what we so often take for granted.

Join forces with Walk for Water this year! At 9am on April 16, 2011 we’ll gather at Town Lake Trail under the bridge at Mopac (map) to simulate what it’s like to walk for miles to gather water. Each participant will cary an empty 2.5 gallon bucket to a marked location 5 miles away, retrieve water, and return to our starting point. Some people may prefer to go the full distance of 10 miles. That route will be made available as well!

Here’s what you need to do to participate in this year’s Walk for Water.

Step 1: Email us at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) with the subject line “Walk for Water.” In the body of the email, just tell us your name and t-shirt size so we’ll be able to accurately assess who will be joining us for the walk.

Step 2: Download our Donation and Release Form by clicking here. This is where you’ll keep track of how much you’ve raised and who has donated what. Remember, if someone would like an end-of-year tax receipt you will need to get their mailing address.

Step 3: Start talking with your family, friends, and neighbors about the world’s water needs and start raising money!

Thank you considering partnering with us to bring hope and clean water to the people of Robit, Ethiopia! With every step we take we’ll have the chance to experience a small taste of what it’s like to go so far for so little.

They walk for water. We walk for them.
